This 135 key hotel scheme design maximises the potential of an awkward site. To counteract the site’s steep gradients, terraced room levels with green roofs are built into the landscape. Each room has its own plunge pool at the front with access from behind. Upon entry each occupant will see firstly water, then foliage, then sky.

Interconnecting waterways form an integral part of the design, allowing the user, where desired, to swim throughout the site rather than walk. Intermittent island platforms connected by floating walkways provide all pedestrian access whilst floating daybeds moored to their sides provide a unique relaxation experience.

The schemes layout concentrates all circulation to the perimeter, focusing the unit design inwards, emphasising the views. The design for the rear of the residential blocks is reminiscent of tree houses. Users access their room by a number of light weight timber walkways; passing through a dense jungle canopy to feel fully integrated with nature. These walkways cantilever from a series of timber ‘cubes’ which not only provide private light wells for each room but also house the core and bathroom elements.

Each room houses a range of public and private spaces, all fully user controlled through a series of timber shutters. The shifting positions of these shutters provide the design with an ever changing façade, responding to both time of day and specific user preferences.
