Fourfoursixsix were approached to design a proposal for the renovation of two separate nine storey apartment buildings into a unified hotel development. The existing structure required a lightweight exterior cladding solution to be used and an interior design response that boldly highlighted the nature of the refurbishment.
The façade design is made up of a rhythmic alignment of lightweight prefabricated panels that provide a modular construction and aesthetic solution, the intention of which was to provide a design solution that was both sustainable and design led. The facade format minimises the overall percentage of glazing used, reducing solar glare and improving energy efficiency. Furthermore, it helps to break up the overall massing of the built form.
The interior design creates a transparent dialogue with the original structure of the building whilst providing an interesting counterpoint through the insertion of clean, modern elements to juxtapose the exposed existing structure. A simple material palette, clean lines and a series of open-plan, interconnecting spaces provide the basis of the main front of house elements within the scheme, which connect intrinsically with the interior format of the rooms above.
