The Archipel Villa is set with 3800m/2 of untouched jungle land on a beach front site on the South Western tip of Koh Samui Island, Thailand. The design seeks to maximise the site’s notable luxuries of space, privacy and view, and separates the various aspects of a more traditional residential property into a number of separated elements, individually inserted within the natural environment. This not only provides the client with an interesting (and private) external circulation route, but also breaks down the overall scale of the building to ensure that the area’s natural beauty was not jeopardised.
The scheme breaks down the boundary between internal and external space, enabling many of the public areas to bleed harmoniously into one another. Externally, the design displays a strong link with the vernacular architecture, expressed both through form and material. Internally this is juxtaposed with a contemporary open plan interior, more in keeping with the client’s modern day living requirements.
